WB: Malozzi, Panthers top Colby-Sawyer to match best start since 2010–11

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior Hailey Malozzi (Maynard, Mass.) poured in 24 points to lift Plymouth State University to a 74-64 win over Colby-Sawyer College in a non-conference women's basketball matchup at Foley Gymnasium on Wednesday.
 
The Panthers trailed early but closed the first quarter with six straight points to take a 12-10 lead. Colby-Sawyer responded with a 10-0 run early in the second, but Malozzi came up big as PSU surged back in front for good with a 21-7 burst.
 
The cut the deficit to seven, 63-56, midway through the fourth, but senior Raegan Peck (Dudley, Mass.) buried a clutch three-pointer to restore the double-digit advantage, and the Panthers held strong the rest of the way.
 
With the win, Plymouth State improves to 7-1, matching its best start since the 2010-11 season. The Chargers drop to 4-5.

  • Colby-Sawyer opened with a small run to build an 8-4 lead in the first three minutes.

  • Freshman Macy Swormstedt (Laconia, N.H.) scored at the rim to extend the advantage, but the Chargers answered with a 10-0 run to regain control.
  • Malozzi swung momentum back PSU's way, scoring 10 points during a 21-7 run that put the Panthers ahead 35-27 at halftime, punctuated by a layup just before the buzzer.
  • Colby-Sawyer opened the third with a 7-0 spurt to pull within one, but freshman Genna Bolduc (Dover, N.H.) knocked down two threes to keep PSU in front.
  • The Chargers stayed close, trimming the deficit to 53-48 heading to the fourth.
  • Plymouth State pushed the lead to 63-48 with a 10-0 start to the final frame before Colby-Sawyer again rallied. Peck's key three-pointer restored a double-digit lead, 66-56, with 4:25 remaining.
