WBB: Panthers fall to #23/#25 UMass Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs, 83-52, in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup at Tripp Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
Junior Raegan Peck (Dudley, Mass.) continued to be a force in conference, leading all scorers with 18 points, while classmate Hailey Malozzi (Maynard, Mass.) recorded ten points of her own. Graduate student Sabrina Vlahovic (New Hope, Pa.) scored eight points and snared seven rebounds in the losing effort for the Panthers.
 
Plymouth State drops to 3-16 (0-11 LEC), while the Corsairs, ranked 23rd in the nation in the latest D3hoops.com poll and #25 in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll, improves to 17-2 and 10-0 in conference play.

Top Performers: How it Happened:
  • Plymouth State took an early 7-6 lead with 6:10 on the clock in the opening quarter.
  • The Corsairs locked down defensively, as the Panthers were unable to knock down another field goal in the first quarter. UMD pulled ahead 22-10 after ten minutes of play.
  • UMass Dartmouth extended the margin to 16 points (26-10), hitting the first two field goals of the second quarter.
  • Behind back-to-back threes from Malozzi and Peck, the Panthers cut the deficit to nine points (30-21) with 5:30 to go until halftime.
  • The Corsairs pulled ahead again, this time closing out the second quarter with a 14-point (43-29) halftime lead.
  • UMass Dartmouth scored the first nine points of the third quarter to take a commanding 52-29 lead.
  • The Panthers scored the final two points of the third quarter but still trailed 63-39 after three.
  • UMD cruised through the final quarter of play to secure the conference victory and remain undefeated in the LEC.

  • UMass Dartmouth shot over 60% from the floor in the first and third quarters.

  • The Corsairs controlled the interior, outscoring the Panthers 46-12 in the paint.
  • UMass Dartmouth has won each of the last 11 meetings between the teams and is on an 11-game winning streak.
