Karlee Lehner (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) earned the final Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Ice Hockey weekly honors of the season after leading the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team to the MASCAC Tournament title on Friday night.
Top-seeded Plymouth State outlasted third-seeded Rivier, 2-1, in a four-overtime marathon – the second-longest NCAA Division III women's ice hockey game in recorded history – to claim the MASCAC crown before a sold-out crowd at Hanaway Rink.
McNeil was named Player of the Week, while Lehner, the Tournament MVP, was honored as Goalie of the Week.
McNeil opened the scoring at the 6:38 mark of the second period, knocking a rebound into an open net. She also made several key defensive plays throughout the game, breaking up scoring opportunities, slowing breakout chances, and blocking four shots.
Lehner allowed just one goal – a fluke midway through the third period – when a shot from the blue line ricocheted off the end boards behind the net, where a Raiders' skater tucked it in. She finished with 32 saves, a 0.47 GAA, and .970 save percentage. Lehner was named Tournament MVP after totaling 51 saves, a 0.64 GAA, and a .962 save percentage in PSU's two playoff wins.
Plymouth State reached its first-ever championship game and capped a historic season by securing the program's first title. The Panthers set multiple program records this winter, including wins, winning percentage, shutouts, goals, assists, and points, among others, finishing with a best-ever 18-7-2 record.
