PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Maggie MacDonald (Pembroke, Mass.) was recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) on Monday as the league announced its weekly women's soccer awards winners.
 
MacDonald was selected as the LEC Women's Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring a pair of goals in the Panthers' season-opening, 3-0 win at Thomas College on Saturday.
 
Despite controlling play throughout, PSU maintained a narrow 1-0 lead midway through the second half until MacDonald doubled the margin with a header goal off a corner kick in the 72nd minute. MacDonald would ice the victory in the 89th minute when she redirected a free kick past the Terriers' goalie to account for the final score.
 
Plymouth State will face a tall task in the season opener on Tuesday (Sept. 2), as Middlebury College comes to Panther Field for a 3:00 p.m. clash. Middlebury was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Pre-Season Poll.
