FH: Porrello, Monahan power PSU over Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Senior Katie Porrello (Milford, Conn.) scored for the second straight game and classmate Ellie Monahan (Watertown, Mass.) added two assists to lift Plymouth State University to a 3-1 win over Framingham State University in a non-conference field hockey contest at Maple Street Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers started the game with a furious pace, pushing into the offensive end early and often. It was the hosts who opened the scoring, though, taking a 1-0 lead halfway through the second quarter. The Rams carried the lead into halftime, but PSU took it up a notch after the break. Just past the midpoint of the third quarter, Porrello cashed in to tie things at 1-1. Just over five minutes later, senior Jen Newick (Lee, N.H.) tucked one past the goalkeeper for her first of the year to give PSU a one-goal lead heading into the final frame.

The Plymouth State offense poured on the attack in the fourth quarter, nearly blowing the game wide open. Finally, sophomore Georgia Coleman (North Conway, N.H.) added an insurance goal and PSU cruised to its first win of the season.

Plymouth State improves to 1-3, while Framingham State falls to 1-4.
