WESTFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight week, graduate student
Gregory Walker (Boxford, Mass.) was picked as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week, as the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday.
In addition to Walker's recognition, sophomore defensive back
Robbie Engel (Topsfield, Mass.) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Walker had another big day for the Panthers' offense, finishing with 164 all-purpose yards, three touchdowns, and the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime as PSU outlasted Worcester State, 47-46, on Saturday. Walker posted 24 carries for 145 yards on the ground (6.0 yards/carry) and a pair of rushing TDs, while also adding two catches for 19 yards and a score. Plymouth State tied the game on a 52-yard Hail Mary with just one second remaining in regulation. After Worcester State scored on its OT possession, PSU answered back. Opting for the win, Walker took a pitch and waltzed into the end zone untouched for the victory-sealing two-point conversion.
Engel posted game-highs of 14 tackles and seven solo tackles to lead the PSU defense. He made two huge stops on Worcester State's final drive in regulation. With the Lancers leading 39-32 and needing just one first down to secure the win, Engel made big tackles on first and second down as the defense forced a three-and-out. The Panthers got the ball back with 41 seconds to play, to set the stage for the dramatic win.
Through the first two weeks of the season, Walker leads the MASCAC in rushing yards (330), rushing yards per game (165.0), yards per carry (8.9), and rushing touchdowns (five). Engel is first in the league with 11 solo tackles and tied for second with 21.0 total tackles.
Plymouth State travels to Bridgewater State on Saturday (Sept. 20) for a noon clash with the Bears.
