WTEN: Panthers fend off Thomas in marathon battle

WATERVILLE, Maine – Seniors Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) and Maddie Lorenz (Jefferson, N.H.) each won twice as Plymouth State University outlasted Thomas College, 4-3, in a non-conference women's tennis match at the North Street Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Plymouth State won a pair of tightly contested doubles matches to secure the first team point. Craigie and sophomore Lauryn Corrigan (Littleton, N.H.) and Craigie picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles to make it 3-1, but the Terriers eked out a win at No. 2, then tied the match with a victory at No. 6.

The outcome of the match came down to Lorenz at No. 5 singles. After dropping the opening set, 3-6, Lorenz rebounded for a 6-3 to set up a deciding third set. The duo traded blows, with Lorenz finally delivering the knockout punch for a 7-5 win to secure PSU's first victory of the season.

Plymouth State improves to 1-3, while Thomas slips to 3-2.
