CASTINE, Maine – Plymouth State University combined for seven event wins, highlighted by a triple-sweep from senior
Olivia Bailey (Wrentham, Mass.), as the Panthers returned from winter recess for a dual meet against Maine Maritime Academy at Cary W. Bok Pool on Friday.
Bailey claimed three individual victories, winning the 50-yard backstroke in 31.41 seconds, the 100-yard backstroke in 1:07.17, and completing the trifecta in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:11.14.
Classmate
Jackie Gaigals (Rochester, N.H.) also had a big day as a double-winner after claiming victory in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.25 seconds) and the 100-yard breaststroke, in a season-best 1:21.94. She also took second in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 31.74.
Junior
Ollie Kramer (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) posted the final individual event win after outlasting the field in the grueling 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:31.83. She also took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:56.09.
Other top finishes included a second-place showing for junior
Gabby Gladu (Lewiston, Maine) in the 100-yard breaststroke during her season debut (1:25.96), and third place finishes for freshman
Savana Vieira (Berkley, Mass.) and junior
Laurel Bennett (Rindge, N.H.). Vieira was third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:10.81, while Bennett took third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:34.61.
Bailey, Gladu, Gaigals and Kramer teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay with a combined time of 2:08.28, while the 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Kramer, Bennett, Gladu and Vieira placed third with a time of 2:03.48.
Despite the strong individual performances, Maine Maritime used its depth to claim the team victory, 153-102.
