PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore
Natalie Merrick (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was selected for Little East Conference (LEC) honors as the league announced its weekly awards on Monday.
Merrick, who missed the first nine games of the season with an injury, was selected as the LEC Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week after leading the Panthers to a Homecoming win over Keene State in her season debut Friday night.
Merrick made 13 saves and allowed just one goal in her first action of the season, helping the Panthers to a 2-1 win over the visiting Owls. She finished the game with a .929 save percentage. PSU held a 2-0 lead at halftime, and Merrick helped secure the win as Keene State attempted to rally in the second half. Nine of her stops came after halftime, with the visitors even pulling their goalie for an extra field player for more than seven minutes in the fourth quarter.
Plymouth State (2-8, 1-0 LEC) travels to New England College on Tuesday (Oct. 6) for a 7 p.m. game before returning home for a conference matchup with UMass Boston on Saturday (Oct. 10).
