PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Graduate student
Ethan Schena (Methuen, Mass.) has been named the Plymouth State University Male Athlete of the Month for March, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard, following a series of standout performances in cage for the men's lacrosse team.
Schena was a steady presence between the pipes throughout the month, anchoring the Panthers' defense while helping the team to four wins. He posted a 4-2 record across six starts, recording 79 saves and a .669 save percentage while allowing just 6.60 goals per game.
He opened the month with a dominant stretch, backstopping Plymouth State to wins over Clark University, the University of New England and Curry College in a five-day span from Mar. 10-14. Schena allowed just 13 total goals across the three games, which included a nine-save performance in a 9-3 win at Clark and a 12-save effort in a 7-5 victory at Curry. Following the stretch, he was named Little East Conference (LEC) Goalie of the Week.
Schena continued to deliver down the stretch, turning aside a season-high 22 shots against Wentworth on Mar. 18 before adding 11 saves in a 13-6 win over Johnson & Wales on Mar. 21. He closed the month with 15 saves in a road contest at Eastern Connecticut State.
Through the season, Schena has established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the conference, ranking first in the LEC in both goals against average (7.25) and save percentage (.639).
Plymouth State (5-5, 1-2 LEC) visits Keene State for key league game on Saturday (Apr. 11) at 1 p.m.
