PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman pitcher
Allie Cecere (Plainville, Mass.) earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly honors after a standout week in the circle, the league announced Monday.
Cecere was named LEC Rookie of the Week after going 2-1 with a 1.26 earned run average across 16.2 innings in four appearances, helping the Panthers to a 3-1 mark in conference play.
She was the tough-luck loser in game one against VTSU Castleton on Tuesday, allowing just a first-inning run in a 1-0 setback. She struck out four and allowed only four baserunners after the first. Cecere bounced back to earn the win in game two, tossing two innings of no-hit ball as PSU secured the split with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings.
She struck out two of the three batters she faced to close out Thursday's 9-4 win over New England College, then capped the week with her second complete game, allowing just one run in a 7-1 victory over WestConn on Saturday while striking out three.
Cecere currently ranks fourth in the LEC in ERA (2.15) and complete games (8), fifth in wins (7), seventh in innings pitched (71.2), and ninth in both opposing batting average (.248) and strikeouts (42). She has issued just 13 walks this season, the second fewest among qualified pitchers.
Plymouth State visits Southern Maine on Tuesday (Apr. 21) for a pair of conference games.
