NEW LONDON, N.H. - Colby-Sawyer College senior
Noelle Surette (Buxton, Maine) broke the school's single-game
scoring record Tuesday night by scoring 37 points to lead the
Chargers to a 77-64 win over Plymouth State University in
non-conference women's basketball action at Coffin Field House.
Surette broke the single-game scoring record previously held by
Beth Chartier, who scored 35 points in 1996 in a game at Salve
Regina University. Surette also pulled down 13 rebounds for
Colby-Sawyer to record her second double-double of the season.
Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) added 22 points and 13 rebounds of
her own for her second double-double of her career, while Amy
Hebert (Keene, N.H) led the Chargers with a career-high 10 assists.
Leading the way for the Panthers was sophomore Karly
Gray (Southampton, Mass.), who came off the bench to score
13 points. Senior Meg MacDonald (Salem, N.H.)
chipped in 11 points and junior Kayla Morin
(Pascoag, R.I.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for the
Panthers with 10.
Colby-Sawyer opened the game on a 16-4 run and never looked back as
they cruised to a 43-27 halftime lead. The Chargers led by 26
points early in the second half, but Plymouth State did not go
away. The Panthers cut the Charger lead to 10 points with
2:15 to go but could get no closer than eight as the Chargers held
on for the 13-point victory.
The Chargers return to action when they host Tufts University on
Saturday at 1 p.m., while the Panthers host Salem State on Thursday
at 5:30 p.m.
