PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Caitlyn Walker
(Middlebury, Conn.) scored on a breakaway 11 minutes into the first
overtime Thursday afternoon to give Lasell College a 2-1 victory
over Plymouth State University in a non-conference field hockey
game at Arold Field.
The Lasers came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to post their
first win of the season (1-3) after three straight one-goal losses,
including two in overtime. The Panthers (0-3) suffered the same
fate, dropping their third consecutive one-goal affair, the last
two in an extra session.
Plymouth State got on the board first, as junior Amanda
Sherburne (Rumney, N.H.) scored her second goal of the
season six minutes into the contest, with an assist from senior
Rachel Kirschner (Burlington, Conn.). Lasell had
more scoring opportunities in the first half, out-shooting the
Panthers 10-3, but the home team maintained a 1-0 lead at the
break.
Lasell came out strong in the second half, and knotted the score
at 1-1 just a minute into play. Senior Katie Bryer (Dresden, Maine)
got the goal, redirecting a ball off the stick of senior Krysten
Macisso (Westbrook, Maine). Both teams had chances the rest of
regulation, but the score remained tied 1-1, setting up Walker's
game-winner.
PSU senior goalie Katie Randall (Portsmouth,
N.H.) finished with 13 saves, including eight in the first half.
Lasell senior Laura Gallagher (Westwood, Mass.) stopped seven
Panther shots, including four in overtime.
The Panthers are back in action Saturday at home in the Little
East Conference opener against UMass Dartmouth (3:00 p.m.). Lasell
plays its home opener on Saturday against Wheaton College (1:00
p.m.)
