PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Sarah
Smith (Lexington, Mass.) scored two goals Thursday
afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to a 3-0 win over
Springfield College in a non-conference field hockey game at chilly
Arold Field.

Sophomore Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.) added
a goal and an assist for the Panthers, and freshman goalkeeper
Elyse Sedgley (Hopkinton, N.H.) earned her fifth
shutout of the season.  PSU captured its fifth straight win to
improve to 10-6 overall, while Springfield wrapped up its regular
season with a 12-6 mark.

Smith scored the only goal of the first half for the Panthers,
converting a penalty corner from Conroy midway through the stanza.
It remained a 1-0 game until Smith added her second of the game and
team-leading 16th of the season with a nice redirect of
a cross from freshman Lauren Bergeron (New
Hampton, N.H.) with seven minutes remaining in the second
half.  Bergeron set up Conroy with an insurance goal four
minutes later to seal the win for the home team.

Both freshman goalkeepers, Sedgley and Springfield's Alison
McCarthy (North Andover, Mass.) made some outstanding saves and
finished with identical statistics - 16 saves overall with 10
coming in the first half.

Also contributing to the shutout was PSU's defensive line of
juniors Cortney Colligan (Brookfield, N.H.),
Melinda Rozumek (Salem, N.H.)
and Lindsey Hiltz (Manchester, N.H./West) and
freshman Brittany Treichel (Clinton, Conn.)
