LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Sophomore Amanda
Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) and freshman
Alicia Doucet (Manchester,
N.H./Central) combined for 39 points and 22 rebounds Thursday
evening as Plymouth State University defeated Lyndon State College,
73-45, in a non-conference women's basketball game at Stannard
Gymnasium.
Kania made 9-of-13 shot attempts and finished with a season-high 21
points while collecting nine rebounds and three steals, and Doucet
posted her first career double-double with 18 points and 13
rebounds. Junior Laura Kent
(Bellingham, Mass.) added 13 points and senior Kayla
Morin (Pascoag, R.I.) chipped in with 11 as PSU won its
second straight and improved to 6-2 on the season.
Senior Jackie Wetzel (Braintree, Mass.) scored a team-high 14
points for the Hornets, and classmate Jen Stoddard-Imari (Danville,
Vt.) posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15
rebounds. Stoddard-Imari grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and she also
registered four assists in two steals, playing all 40 minutes, as
the Hornets fell to 3-4.
Plymouth State led by as many as 12 points (24-12) midway through
the first half before Lyndon State battled back to pull to within
four points at halftime, 34-30. It was still a five-point margin
(44-39) five minutes into the second half when the Hornets went
cold and PSU rattled off 19 unanswered points to go up by 24 points
with six minutes remaining and put the game away.
Lyndon State connected on only 22 percent of its field goal
attempts in the second half and shot a dismal 28 percent for the
game. The Panthers on the other hand, connected on 50 percent of
their shots in the second half and hit 46 percent in the contest.
PSU returns home to host Western Connecticut State University on
Saturday in a Little East Conference game at Foley Gymnasium (1:00
p.m.), just the second home game this season for the
Panthers. Lyndon State entertains New England College
Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
