PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Terri Duffy (Marshfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 29 points Tuesday evening as Colby-Sawyer College handed Plymouth State University its first loss of the season, 66-56, in a non-conference women's basketball game at Foley Gymnasium.

              The outcome was closer than the score reflected.  It was tied 26-26 at halftime, and the Chargers led by just three points (59-56) with a minute to play, but the visitors hung tough and made five of seven free throw attempts in the final 40 seconds.  Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-1 on the season, while PSU falls to 4-1.  It was the home opener for Plymouth State.

              Duffy made 13-of-18 shot attempts in the game from the floor, but converted just 3-of-9 from the free throw line.  The next high scorer for the Chargers was senior Kristen Romanko (Mansfield, Mass.), who had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.

              Sophomore Amanda Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) led the Panthers with her second double-double of the season, as she posted 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Freshman Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) added 12 points and juniors Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) and Laura Kent (Bellingham, Mass.) chipped in with nine points apiece.

              There were eight tie scores and eight lead changes in the first half, with neither team leading by more than four points. Colby-Sawyer started to pull away midway through the second half, taking a seven-point advantage with 11 minutes to play.  The Chargers owned a nine-point bulge (59-50) with three minutes remaining, when PSU scored six unanswered point to cut the margin to three (59-56).

              The Panthers did not score again though, and Colby-Sawyer put the game away at the free throw line down the stretch.

              PSU opens Little East Conference play this Saturday at pre-season favorite Eastern Connecticut State University (1:00 p.m.)  Colby-Sawyer is back in action Saturday with a non-conference match-up at Tufts University (2:00 p.m.)
