WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - Junior Chris
Chambers (Crofton, Md.) scored a pair of goals Saturday
evening to lead the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team
to a 5-3 victory over Salve Regina University in an ECAC Northeast
Conference game at Waterville Valley Arena.
Plymouth State
came from behind to pull out the win, scoring three unanswered
goals in the second period and first 10 minutes of the third.
Salve stayed into the game until Chambers' second goal, an
empty-netter, clinched the win for the home team. PSU is now
3-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play, while Salve slips to 1-8-2
overall and 1-5-1 in the ECAC Northeast.
PSU jumped on
the board first on the first goal of the season by sophomore
Tim Vlcek (LaGrange Park, Ill.) five minutes into
the contest. The Seahawks responded with a pair of goals to
take the lead, sophomore Bryan Russell (Essex Jct., Vt.) lighting
the lamp at 14:09 and junior Pat Bambery (Braintree, Mass.) scoring
on the power play at 17:30.
Chambers scored
his first of the night on the power play at 5:44 of the second
period on a deflection in front, and sophomore Bryan
Horrigan (Brookfield, Wis.) gave PSU the lead back with a
power play marker later in the period, getting his shot from the
point through a screen in front of the goal.
Panther
freshman Justin Phenney (Brunswick, Ohio) made it
a two-goal game with his third of the season midway through the
third period. Sophomore Ryan Petersen (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cut
the margin to one for Salve with 4:50 remaining, but Chambers
sealed the win with his team and conference-leading ninth of the
season at 19:39.
PSU finished
with a 41-27 advantage in shots on goal. Panther freshman
goalie Allen Schneider (Strongsville, Ohio) earned
the win with a 24-save effort. Sophomore Pat Enloe (Stuart,
Fla.) made 36 saves for the Seahawks.
PSU is back in
action Wednesday with a conference game against Becker College at
the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, Mass. (7:55 p.m.) Salve
skates again Tuesday at Western New England College (7:20
p.m.)
