LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Junior guard Ben
Huntington (Hampstead, N.H.) matched his season-high with
27 points Thursday night as Plymouth State University downed Lyndon
State College, 101-69, in non-conference men's basketball action at
Stannard Gymnasium.
Senior Chris Wilkinson (Newmarket, N.H.) recorded
his second straight double-double for the Panthers, adding 17
points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Mike
Chergey (Bow, N.H.) and freshman Ian
Dempsey (Andover, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points each.
Sophomore Joe Visker (Essex Jct., Vt.) led LSC with 15 points,
while junior Cesar Martinez (East Harlem, N.Y.) had 14 and the
tandem of senior Michael Paul (New Haven, Vt.) and junior Kali
Stoddard-Imari (Lyndon Center, Vt.) tallied 11 each. Senior Ryan
Somers (East Montpelier, Vt.) also tossed in 10 points in the loss.
Plymouth State stopped a five-game losing streak and moved to 5-15
overall, while the Hornets dropped their sixth in a row and fell to
6-16.
It was a close game much of the first half, with the Hornets
holding a one-point lead (28-27) with eight minutes remaining. PSU
got hot and outscored Lyndon 15-2 over the next four minutes to go
up by 12 points (42-30) and closed the half with a 10-4 burst to
take a 52-34 advantage into the locker room.
The second half was all Panthers, as the visitors maintained a
20-point advantage the first 10 minutes and a 30-point margin the
rest of the way.
PSU shot 51 percent from the floor for the game, and had a 51-30
advantage in the rebounding department.
The Panthers return to Little East Conference play Saturday at
Rhode Island College (3:00 p.m.), as PSU interim head coach Jay
Harris returns to his alma mater for the first time. Lyndon
State will face Hesser College on the road Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
