NEWTON, Mass. - Sophomores
Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) and
Adam Rothbart (Portland, Maine) scored two goals
apiece and freshman goalie Billy Morgan
(Winchester, Mass.) made 15 saves Wednesday afternoon as Plymouth
State University edged Lasell College, 6-4, in non-conference men's
lacrosse action.
It was a close game the entire way. PSU scored the first two
goals of the contest, but Lasell came back to tie it up at 2-2 by
the end of the opening quarter. After trading goals to start
the second period, Rothbart scored for PSU for a 4-3 advantage at
halftime, and Giroux tallied the only goal of the third quarter to
make it 5-3. Lasell cut the margin to one goal with seven
minutes remaining in the contest, but that's as close as the Lasers
came. Rothbart rounded out the scoring for PSU with one
second remaining.
Freshman Andrew Eriksen (Beverly, Mass.) and
sophomore Steve Engel (South Windsor, Conn.) also
scored goals for the Panthers, with Giroux and senior Adam
Krinsky (Concord, N.H.) collecting assists. Senior
Mike Russell (Concord, N.H.) led PSU with six
ground balls and sophomore Jon Walsh (Trumbull,
Conn.) picked up four.
Plymouth State (3-1) opens Little East Conference play this
Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. contest at Western Connecticut State
University. The Panthers will also play at Nichols College on
Sunday in a make-up game (1:00 p.m.) Lasell, which dropped
its second in a row to fall to 4-2, hosts MIT on Saturday.
