WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Senior Pete Hamilton
(Rutland, Vt.) and junior Matthew Savage (Southington, Conn.)
scored four goals apiece Sunday afternoon to lead Eastern
Connecticut State University to a 14-10 victory over Plymouth State
University in a Little East Conference men's lacrosse game at
Thomas Nevers Field.
Plymouth State scored the first goal of the second half to pull the
Panthers to within one goal of Eastern, 9-8, but the Warriors
answered with four unanswered goals to take their largest lead of
the day at 13-8. PSU out shot the home team 19-11 in the
second half, but could manage only one goal in a 26-minute span as
the Warriors held off the Panther pressure.
Junior Kyle Savage (Southington, Conn.) made 13 saves in goal for
Eastern, which remained unbeaten in LEC play (3-0) and improved to
6-4 overall. The Panthers fell to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in conference
play.
Sophomores Steve Engel (South Windsor, Conn.) and
Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) led the
Panther scorers with two goals apiece. Six others contributed
one goal apiece -- senior John Cogswell
(Jefferson, Mass.), Tony Aguiar (Northborough,
Mass.) and Mike Russell (Concord, N.H.), juniors
Jordan Buzzell (Bath, Maine) and Conor
McCullough (Dover, N.H.), and sophomore Matt
Johansmeyer (Shelburne Falls, Mass.)
Sophomore Tim Hadley (New London, N.H.) picked up
a career-high nine ground balls for PSU as the Panthers had a 41-32
advantage over Eastern in ground balls. Hadley also won nine of 14
face-offs.
The Panthers' game on Tuesday has been moved to Clark University in
Worcester, Mass., beginning at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Conn. hosts
UMass Dartmouth Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
