FRAMINGHAM, Mass. - Junior Chris Chambers
(Crofton, Md.) recorded his second career hat trick Thursday night
to lead Plymouth State University past Framingham State College,
9-2, in an ECAC Northeast Conference men's ice hockey game.
Freshman Chris Zaremba (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
also scored two goals for the Panthers, while sophomores
Jake Curtin (Concord, N.H.) and Sean
Buckley (Sagamore, Mass.) tallied a goal and two assists
each and junior Stephan Davis (Lafayette, Calif.)
collected a career-high four assists.
PSU extended its unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2) and evened
its season record at 8-8-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the ECAC
Northeast. Framingham State continued its struggles and fell
to 0-16-3 and 0-9-2.
After Chambers and Framingham freshman Michael Carroll (New City,
N.Y.) traded goals midway through the first period, freshman
transfer Brian Johnson (East Bridgewater, Mass.)
notched his first goal late in the opening frame to give PSU the
lead for good. Curtin and freshman Chris Mohar
(Bloomfield, Colo.) made it 4-1 for the Panthers early in the
second period, and Buckley and Chambers scored goals less
than a minute apart late in the second to extend the margin to 6-1.
Junior Joseph Hurley (Charlestown, Mass.) scored a power play goal
for the Rams to open the third period scoring, but PSC tacked on
three more goals to complete the scoring, two by Zaremba and one by
Chambers to complete his hat trick.
Chambers now leads the team in goals with 13, and shares to team
scoring lead with Buckley (7-11-18) with 18 points. Zaremba
has 10 goals on the season, including nine in his last six games.
Freshman goalie Allen Schneider (Strongsville,
Ohio) recorded the victory with 23 saves in the first two periods.
Junior Aaron Runner (Alpharetta, Ga.) came on for
the third period and made four saves. Framingham State also
used two goalies, with sophomore Terence Sullivan (Shirley, Mass.)
and junior Andy Joyce (Milford, Mass.) combining to make 33 saves.
PSU plays its third straight road game Saturday evening (7:15 p.m.)
at Wentworth. FSC begins a three-game road trip Saturday at
Worcester State (7:30 p.m.)
