WORCESTER, Mass. - Plymouth State University
overcame a slow start Tuesday night, outscoring Clark University
9-3 in the middle two quarters en route to a 12-8 victory over the
Cougars in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at Granger Field.
PSU trailed 3-1 after one quarter, but came back to score the only
three goals of the second frame to take a 4-3 lead at
halftime. The Panthers outscored Clark 6-3 in the third
quarter to go ahead 10-6, and the teams traded two goals each in
the final stanza for the 12-8 final Plymouth State won its
second in a row and upped its record to 2-3, while Clark had its
two-game win streak stopped and fell to 2-7.
Senior Dan Maiorana (Walpole, Mass.) led the Panthers with three
goals, while juniors Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro
Falls, N.H.) and Derick Smith (New London,
N.H./Kearsarge) added two goals each. Junior Brett
Zebrowski (Bayville, N.Y.) scored once and picked up a
team-high six ground balls.
Senior Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) was the game's high scorer,
tallying five goals and two assists for the Cougars. Freshman
Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) added two goals and two assists for
Clark in the setback, and sophomore Tim Roche (Centerport, N.Y.)
collected a game-high eight ground balls.
The Panthers return to Little East Conference action this Saturday
with a key match-up at defending regular season champion Eastern
Connecticut State University (1:00 p.m.) Clark plays a
Pilgrim League game Saturday at Springfield (3:00 p.m.)
