BABSON PARK, Mass. - Junior midfielder Anna
Collins (Winchester Mass.) scored seven goals and added one assist
Friday afternoon as Babson College powered past Plymouth State
University at MacDowell Field, 22-3, in the women's lacrosse season
opener for both schools.
The Beavers, ranked 11th in the nation the Division III
coaches' national pre-season poll, got off to a quick start,
scoring three goals in the first two and a half minutes. Six of
Collins' seven goals came in the first half and five different
players scored for the Beavers who led at halftime, 14-0.
Plymouth State scored their three goals in the final 10 minutes of
play. Junior Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.)
and freshmen Brianna Davis (Framingham, Mass.) and
Nicole Grover (Yarmouth, Maine) each tallied an
unassisted goal for the Panthers.
Ten different players scored goals for Babson. Junior Kaityln
Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored four goals and had one assist
and first-year Trisha Babson (Duxbury, Mass.) tallied three goals
and four assists in her collegiate debut. Senior Lindsay Bucci
(Medford, Mass.) scored two goals and added one assist. Bridget
McCurdy (Weston,Mass), Ellen McCurdy (Weston, Mass.), Jackie
Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.), Jess Parker (Cataumet, Mass.), Alyssa
Hood (Newport, R.I.), and Marissa Monaco (Quincy, Mass.) all scored
one goal in the victory.
The Beavers outshot their opponents 38-11 and picked up 22
groundballs on the day. The teams were almost even in draw controls
with Babson winning 14 of the 27. Plymouth's Brianna Davis won a
game-high five draw controls.
Babson sophomore Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) and junior Laura
Bronner (Greenwich, Conn.) split the time in goal. Macary made two
saves in the first half and shutout the Panthers, while Bronner had
one save in the second half. Freshman goalie Nicole
Provencher (Guilford, Conn.) had eight saves in the
Panther goal in her collegiate debut.
PSU plays another game in the Boston area on Saturday at 12 noon at
Wellesley College. The Beavers are home again on Sunday for a
non-conference match against Eastern Connecticut State University
at 1:00 p.m.
