NEW LONDON, N.H. - Freshman Brianna
Davis (Framingham, Mass.) recorded season-highs of six
goals and eight points Thursday afternoon to lead the visiting
Plymouth State University women's lacrosse team past Colby-Sawyer
College, 17-13, on Senior Day at Kelsey Field.
Junior Taylor Cambal (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added
four goals for the Panthers and freshman Nicole
Grover (Yarmouth, Maine) contributed three goals and two
assists. Plymouth State has won four of its last five games
to complete the regular season with a 5-8 overall record, and
awaits its opponent as the third seed next week in the Little East
Conference playoffs.
The Chargers finish the regular season with a 3-10 record and will
travel to Endicott on Tuesday, April 28 for a TCCC tournament
opening round match.
Cambal got the Panthers on the board first with a tally a minute
and a half into the game. Both teams jockeyed for field position
for the next eight minutes until sophomore Hannah Cullen (Penacook,
N.H.) tied the game at 1-1. The first half remained close with
multiple ties and lead changes. After a goal from Colby-Sawyer
senior Allicia Murphy (No. Bennington, Vt.) tied the game at 4-4,
the Panthers closed with another tally from Cambal with under a
minute to play.
The first 10 minutes of the second half was a mirror image of the
first with three more ties. However, Plymouth State rattled off
five straight goals over the next seven minutes to take a
commanding 14-9 lead. Davis scored three of her six goals in that
stretch. The Chargers would get the lead down to three on a goal
from freshman Liz Allen (Holden, Mass.) but could not overcome the
deficit.
Allen led the Chargers with four goals. Junior Elaina Kennedy
(Sunderland, Mass.) scored three times and Cullen added two goals.
Murphy, playing her last home game in front of the Charger
faithful, finished with two goals and five draw controls. Freshman
Laura Strelis (Arlington, Mass.) scored once and had a game-high
seven draw controls.
Junior Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) had a solid
game with two goals and a game-high six ground balls, along with
four draw controls and six caused turnovers. Freshman
Nicole Provencher (Guilford, Conn.) earned the
victory in goal for the Panthers with eight saves.
PSU will host an LEC Tournament first-round game Tuesday at Arold
Field, with the opponent and game time to be determined.
