HOLDERNESS, N.H. - Junior Brian
Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) and sophomore
Andrew Eriksen (Beverly, Mass.) scored three goals
each Tuesday afternoon as Plymouth State University defeated
Castleton State College, 12-3, in non-conference men's lacrosse
action at The Holderness School.
It was a low-scoring game for the first three quarters, with PSU
holding a 4-2 lead late in the third frame. PSU senior
Jordan Buzzell (Bath, Maine) scored as the buzzer
sounded to end the third, and the Panthers rattled off seven
unanswered goals to start the fourth quarter to put the game
away. Ericksen and Giroux had two goals each in the final
stanza to finish off the Panther rally.
PSU returns to the win column and improves to 3-4 overall.
Castleton had its four-game winning streak stopped and fell to 5-4.
Junior Brett Zebrowski (Bayville, N.Y.) added two
goals and one assist for the winners, while senior Conor
McCullough (Dover, N.H./Oyster River) and juniors
Tim Hadley (New London, N.H./Kearsarge) and
Matt Johansmeyer (Shelburne Falls, Mass./Mohawk
Regional) scored once each. Ericksen also led the Panthers
with five ground balls.
The Spartans got single goals from senior Jason Jakimer (Yorktown,
N.Y.) and sophomores Craig MacDerment (Glenville, N.Y.) and Michael
DelDotto (Reading, Mass.) Junior Jake Rick (Rochester, N.Y.)
assisted on all three goals, and picked up a team-high five ground
balls.
Plymouth State finished with a 39-19 advantage in shots, including
14-3 in the pivotal fourth quarter. Sophomore Billy
Morgan (Winchester, Mass.) made nine saves to earn his
first victory of the season for PSU. Senior Michael Mamunes
(Ellington, Conn.) made 14 saves in 56 minutes in the Castleton
goal, and freshman David DeGhetto (Clifton, N.J.) stopped three
shots in the final four minutes.
PSU will be back in action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the season
debut at Panther Field, a Little East Conference contest against
Salem State College. Castleton plays a North Atlantic
Conference game Thursday at Johnson State College (4:00 p.m.).
