Box Score Panthers extend winning streak to seven
LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Senior Amanda
Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) recorded her third 20-10
game in her last four outings Thursday evening as Plymouth State
University posted its seventh straight victory, defeating Lyndon
State College, 76-68, in non-conference women's basketball
action at Stannard Gymnasium.
Kania scored a team-high 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and grabbed
a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Three other
starters also scored in double figures -- junior Alicia
Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) with 13 points, junior
Colleen O'Hara's (Otego, N.Y.) with
12, and freshman Sammie Walker (Manchester,
N.H./Central) with 11, as PSU improved to 7-1 overall.
The Panther victory offset a terrific performance from Lyndon
State's Donna Lawson, who scored 34 points and collected 22
rebounds. Naomi White also scored 11 points and grabbed eight
rebounds in the loss as the Hornets dropped to 4-2.
The home team was up by six points and the midway point of the
first half when Plymouth State scored 13 unanswered points to take
a seven-point advantage. The Panthers also closed out the
half with an 8-2 burst to take a 41-29 advantage into the locker
room.
The Panther margin reach 21 points (55-34) five minutes into the
second half, but Lyndon State would not go quietly. The
Hornets battled back with 17 unanswered points to pull to within
four, 55-51, with 8:30 remaining. That was as close as they
could come, and PSU held on for the eight-point victory.
PSU wraps up the semester on Saturday with a Little East Conference
game at Eastern Connecticut State University (1:00 p.m.)
