WATERVILLE, Maine – Freshman Ian Deveau
(Portsmouth, R.I.) recorded three goals and three assists Thursday
afternoon as the Colby College men's lacrosse team opened up
an 8-2 halftime lead on the way to a 13-8 victory over Plymouth
State University in non-conference action at Bill Alfond Field.
Mark Squicciarino (Titusville, N.J.) added two goals and two
assists for the Mules, who led 6-1 after the opening period. Whit
McCarthy (Darien, Conn.) and Scott Margolis (New York, N.Y.) also
had two goals apiece. Stew Brown (Wilton, Conn.), John Jennings
(Danvers, Mass.), James Brady (Walpole, Mass.), and John Moriarty
(Winchester, Mass.) had the other goals for Colby.
Junior Andrew Eriksen (Beverly, Mass.) led the
Panthers with two goals and one assist. Senior Brian
Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) also had two goals while
freshman Ty Long (Dover, N.H.) and seniors
Tim Hadley (New London, N.H.), Logan
Irish (Somers, Conn.), and Adam Rothbart
(Portland, Maine) all had one goal. Hadley picked up a team-high
four ground balls.
The Mules won 19 of the 25 face-off attempts and were 3-for-7 with
the man-up. Plymouth State was 1-for-2 with extra man.
Colby moves to 2-1 overall heading into Saturday's big 1 p.m.
home game with ninth-ranked Tufts University. The Mules are 8-0 on
Bill Alfond Field over the past two years. Plymouth State falls to
0-2 overall and will play at Castleton State on Saturday at 3
p.m.
