MANSFIELD, Conn. – Coming off the first
scoreless game of her Eastern Connecticut State University
women's lacrosse career, sophomore midfielder Ashley Prizio
(Brookfield, Conn.) responded with her most productive one, scoring
a career-high seven goals in a 17-10 Little East Conference victory
over Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon at the Mansfield
Outdoor Complex.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Eastern (3-6, 1-1
Little East), while Plymouth State evens out at 3-3 overall and 1-1
in the LEC. Eastern's win follows a loss a week ago
which snapped its 21-game LEC winning streak.
Prizio, who scored 37 goals at Division I Long Island University in
2009, was held off the board in a 9-7 loss to Wellesley College
Wednesday. Saturday, she connected on seven of her eight shots. She
scored six of her goals in the first half, staking the Warriors to
an insurmountable 13-4 half time lead on the way to their
season-high goal total.
PSU senior Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) scored the
first goal of the match in the opening 90 seconds, but the Panthers
trailed by 11 goals, 16-5, before she broke through again with 19
minutes left. Sophomore Brianna Davis
(Framingham, Mass.) topped the Panther offense with four goals, and
classmate Britney Chiles (North Andover, Mass.)
led the defense with three caused turnovers, five draw controls and
two ground balls.
The Warriors, three-time defending LEC regular-season champions,
seized early momentum in the game, scoring five consecutive goals
in the opening 12 minutes to take a four-goal lead. The advantage
never dipped below three the rest of the way. Prizio and senior
attack Courtney Bedocs (Hamden, Conn.) each scored twice in that
early rush.
Freshman goalie Nancy Ibrahim (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) made nine saves
for Eastern to log her first conference victory. Seven of her stops
came in the second half.
Plymouth State returns home to host Thomas College on Sunday at
2:00 p.m. in the home opener at Arold Field. Eastern hosts
Connecticut College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
