(Box Score)
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Junior Jenny Jones
(Framingham, Mass.) tallied a game-high seven goals and one assist
and senior Shannon Manning (Framingham, Mass.) added four goals and
three assists Thursday afternoon to lead the Bridgewater State
College women's lacrosse team to a 20-8 victory over Plymouth
State University in a non-conference match-up.
The Bears scored the first five goals in the first 15 minutes of
the game and held an 8-3 advantage at the half. BSC followed
with six of the first seven goals of the second half to extend the
margin to 14-4 before coasting home the rest of the way. The
Bears improve to 8-4 overall on the season while Plymouth State
slips to 4-4.
Bridgewater jumped out in front with Manning opening the scoring
with the 200th goal of her career in the first minute of
play. After the Bears raced out to a 5-0 lead, Plymouth State
answered with a goal from sophomore Brianna Davis
(Framingham, Mass.) followed by a pair off the stick of senior
Kalie Judd (Peabody, Mass.) to make it a 5-3 BSC
advantage with six minutes to play in the first half.
From that point on Bridgewater dominated play, scoring the final
three goals of the opening stanza to take an 8-3 lead into the
intermission. The Bears tallied six of the first seven
markers of the second half to open up a 10-point cushion and never
looked back.
Manning upped her career scoring total to 329 points as she needs
just eight points to eclipse Paula Habel's (2000-2003) BSC
career mark of 336. Jones moved into third place on
Bridgewater's all-time goal scoring list as she now has 185
tallies in just three seasons with the Bears.
Bridgewater outshot Plymouth by a margin of 35-22, and held a 17-14
edge in draw controls. Senior netminder Meghan Griffin
(Billerica, Mass.) turned aside nine shots, including the
400th save of her career, to register her eighth win of
the season.
Senior Katie DeMaio (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), junior Courtney
Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore Kristin White (Pelham,
Mass.) each added two goals and an assist for the Bears, while
junior Patricia Maloney (Walpole, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and
two assists.
Judd finished with three goals and a game-high seven draw controls
to lead the Panthers, while Davis and senior Kerry
D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) also added two goals and
an assist apiece for PSU.
Both teams are slated for conference games on Saturday, weather
permitting. Bridgewater State travels to Elms College for a
noontime New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance matchup, while
Plymouth State is slated to host Little East Conference foe Rhode
Island College at 1:00 p.m. at Arold Field.
