GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Brianna
Davis (Framingham, Mass.) and senior Kerry
D'Ambroise (Lowell, Mass.) combined to score 13 goals
Tuesday afternoon as Plymouth State University defeated the
University of Southern Maine, 18-12, in a Little East Conference
women's lacrosse game at Paula D. Hodgdon Field.
The win improves the Panthers' record to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in
conference play. The Huskies had their two-game winning
streak stopped and fall to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Davis scored a game-high seven goals, including four in the opening
half to help the Panthers build a 10-2 lead. D'Ambroise added
six goals, five coming in the second half to keep the Huskies at
bay. Sophomore Britney Chiles (North
Andover, Mass.) and senior Kalie Judd (Peabody,
Mass.) scored two goals apiece. Judd had a game-high three
assists. In goal, senior Morgan Lemmon
(Gilford, N.H.) made 11 stops and sophomore Allie
Baribault (Middle Haddam, Conn.) recorded one save.
For USM, freshmen Shelby Turcotte (Lewiston, Maine) and Lauren
Santo (Salem, N.H.) had three goals. Freshman Haley Jordan
(Falmouth, Maine) added two goals and an assist, and junior Kristy
Kendrick (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) scored twice. Rookie
goalie Samantha Kiesel (Lakeville, Mass./Kents Hill) had nine saves
before giving way to junior Rachel Lolley (Gorham, Maine) with 13
minutes to play.
D'Ambroise and Jordan traded goals in the opening 2:05 before
Plymouth State went on an
8-0 run over a 21-minute span to build a 9-1 margin.
Chiles ignited the outburst converting a free position attempt, and
scored the last goal of the run with 2:09 left in the half.
In between, Davis netted four goals and Judd scored twice and
recorded two assists.
Junior Jess Martineau (Yarmouth, Maine) broke the string of PSU
goals finding the net with 1:14 before halftime.
The teams traded goals throughout the second half until USM went on
a 5-1 surge to get within five (17-12) when Jordan scored her
second goal of the day with 3:55 to play.
Southern Maine hits the road on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) traveling to
Eastern Connecticut State University for an LEC match.
Plymouth State will play a rescheduled game Thursday at Framingham
State College (4:30 p.m.).
