Box Score Frenette, Colborn with multiple goals for
Panthers
NEWTON, Mass. – Freshman Annabelle
Frenette (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) three goals Wednesday
afternoon to lead the Plymouth State University field hockey team
to a 7-0 victory over Lasell College in a non-conference match-up
at Grellier Field.
Junior Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, N.H./White
Mountains Regional) added two goals for the Panthers, and junior
Christina Parisi (Hampton Falls, N.H./Winnacunnet)
and freshman Jackie Morin (Scarborough, Maine)
scored one apiece. PSU won its second game in a row to even its
season record at 2-2. Lasell dropped its second straight and
dipped to 1-4.
Sophomore goalie Hilary Lemelin (Milan,
N.H./Berlin) made six saves in the Panther cage to record her first
career shutout.
Plymouth State scored two goals in a 20 second stretch just three
minutes into the game. Frenette put in the first tally
between a sea of defenders in front of the Lasers net, and Colborn
struck from point-blank range on a rebound for a 2-0 Panther
lead.
Frenette registered her second goal on a similar play in the eighth
minute when Lasell keeper Christine Thornton (Canton, Mass.) made a
kick-save on a shot by Colborn, but Frenette came up with the
second-chance shot and gave PSU a 3-0 lead less than eight minutes
into the game. Morin notched the Panthers' fourth goal at the
29:47 mark, deflecting from the middle of the field at eight yards
out and giving the Panthers a comfortable 4-0 lead at the
break.
PSU extended its lead early in the second half as Colborn
registered her second goal of the game on a pass from
Kristina Conroy (Wakefield, Mass.) at 46:15.
Conroy began the play on the left baseline and crossed the
ball to Colborn at the penalty stroke mark directly in front of the
net for the score.
Parisi struck for the sixth goal on a loose-ball pickup from the
right wing and the final goal of the contest was recorded by
Frenette to complete her hat trick. Frenette dodged her
defender in a one-on-one situation and shot from center field at 12
yards out at the 59:49 mark.
Plymouth State will be back in action Saturday in a Little East
Conference match-up at UMass Dartmouth (1:00 p.m.).
