Box Score Panthers can't stop skid
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth women's basketball team defeated
Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon, 88-54, in a Little
East Conference game at the Tripp Athletic Center.
Playing arguably their best first-half of the season, the Corsairs
raced out to a 20-6 lead in just over six minutes and never looked
back. UMD went into the break with a 46-27 lead over the Panthers
and never let up in the second half. The Corsairs improved to
5-12 overall and 2-5 in the Little East, while the Panthers
suffered their eighth straight loss and fell to 7-9 overall and 1-6
in LEC play.
The Corsairs shot over 50 percent from the field for the game and
out-rebounded the Panthers 52-29, as three players notched
double-doubles. Freshman Erika Bornemann had a game-high 20
points and 12 rebounds, classmate Keneisha Debnam had 17 points and
12 rebounds and senior guard Tashauna Ashmeade finished just three
points shy of the 1,000 point plateau adding 18 points and 10
rebounds. Houtman joined her teammates with double digits in
the scoring column, pouring in 19 points.
The Panthers were led by senior Amanda Kania
(Manchester, N.H./West) who scored 18 points and junior
Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central), who
chipped in with 14 points.
The LEC circuit resumes on Tuesday as UMass Dartmouth hosts Rhode
Island College and PSU visits rival Keene State.
