Box Score Balanced scoring for Panthers not enough
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Phil Winslow
scored a career-high six goals and added two assists Wednesday
evening as host Clark University posted a13-7 win over Plymouth
State University in non-league men's lacrosse action at
Granger Field.
Plymouth State took a 3-1 first-quarter lead, but Clark scored four
unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead late in the second
quarter. The Cougars tallied all four goals in the third
frame to open up a 9-4 margin and held off the Panthers in the
final 15 minutes. Clark improves to 3-4 on the season while
the Panthers dip to 3-3.
Chris Johnson added three goals and two assists for the Cougars,
while Danny Heelan contributed two goals and two assists. Ben
Stuart (Cumberland, Maine) and Eugene Arsenault added first half
markers in the win.
Plymouth State had a balanced offensive attack with Ty
Long (Dover, N.H.) and Mike Ventura
(Columbia, N.J.) scoring two goals apiece and Chris
Annunciata (Waltham, Mass.), Shawn McEvoy
(Spring, Texas) and Andrew Eriksen (Beverly,
Mass.) each adding one. Senior Justin Dube
(Buzzards Bay, Mass.) picked up a team-high four ground balls.
Freshman Kevin Ranta made eight saves in goal for Clark to pick up
the win, while Panther netminder Jack Tyo
(Sandwich, Mass.) turned back four shots in the loss.
The Cougars controlled the faceoff circle, winning 14-of-23 and
they also held a 32-23 advantage in total shots.
Clark will return to the field on Saturday when it hosts MIT, while
Plymouth State visits Western Connecticut on Saturday for the
Little East Conference opener.
