Panthers pull out win vs. Granite State rivals

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Casey Stoodley recorded a double-double Tuesday evening with 18 kills and 24 digs as Plymouth State University came from behind to defeat Colby-Sawyer College, 3-1, in a non-conference women's volleyball match at Foley Gymnasium.

            The Chargers came out strong and took the opening set, 25-20.  PSU led most of the tightly-contested second set and held on for a 25-21 decision to tie the match.  The teams traded leads throughout the third set before the match was deadlocked at 19-19.  Colby-Sawyer nearly pulled out the set, leading 24-21, but PSU rattled off four straight points to go ahead 25-24, and then pulled out the pivotal set on a pair of kills by freshman Jana Nieman.

            Colby-Sawyer was determined to win the fourth set and force a fifth, and led by as many as five points.  The Chargers had margins of 23-20 and 24-23, but PSU would not give in, and took the final three points to close out the set, 26-24, and clinch the victory.

            PSU also got 12 kills from sophomore Allie Jones and eight kills and a team-high five blocks from Nieman.  Senior setter Sarah Cady racked up 39 assists and senior Danielle Stoodley contributed a match-high 26 digs.

            Sophomore Courtney O'Hara led the Chargers with 14 kills and classmate Emilee McBride added eight kills. Senior setter Kristin Sawyer recorded 30 assists, and sophomore Ally Le-Bruno recorded a team-high 23 digs.

            Plymouth State heads to Johnson & Wales University this weekend for the annual Wildcat Fall Classic.  Colby-Sawyer plays a non-conference match Wednesday at Middlebury College.
