Box Score Perry named All-Tournament Team for Panthers
NORTON, Mass. – Plymouth State University had five players score in double figures Sunday afternoon as the Panther women's basketball team defeated Yeshiva University, 81-43, in the consolation game of the Cheryl Warren-Powers Memorial Tournament hosted by Wheaton College (Mass.).
Junior Taylor Perry (Simsbury, Conn.) led the way for the Panthers with 19 points and five steals, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Perry averaged 18 points in the tournament, shooting 57.1 percent from the field (12-of-21) and 66.7 percent from three-point range (8-of-12). Perry was also named to the All-Tournament Team for PSU in last year's season-opening tournament at Vassar.
Sophomore Savannah Miller (Smithtown, N.Y.) contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and seven steals for the Panthers. Sophomore Rosalie Edmonds (Goffstown, N.H.) added 13 points, classmate DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, Conn.) chipped in with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and sophomore Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) was good for 10 points and five rebounds off the Panther bench. Senior Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H.) scored six points and collected a game-high 14 rebounds.
T he Maccabees were led by Julia Owen with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Stephanie Greenberg and Ester Kerzner scored nine points each.
Plymouth State led 10-7 six minutes into the game, and went on a 16-5 run over the next six minutes to open up a 26-12 advantage. The Panthers then scored 14 straight points in the final three minutes of the half before Yeshiva hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, as PSU took a 48-25 lead into the locker room. The Maccabees never threatened the Panther lead in the second half.
Plymouth State returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, traveling to the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, N.H., to play Rivier University in the Boys & Girls Club Classic at 6:00pm.
