PSU Women's Lacrosse stumbles at Babson

Box Score

Allard makes 11 saves in non-conference setback

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Junior Meaghan Allard (Amherst, N.H.) made 11 saves, but Babson College topped Plymouth State University 14-5 in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at MacDowell Field on Saturday.

Babson built a 4-0 lead less than 11 minutes into the contest, but PSU pulled to within 5-2. The Beavers recovered, though, and pushed the advantage to 8-2 at the break. The hosts used a 4-1 spurt to open the second half to hold off any rally by the Panthers.

Plymouth State evens its record at 1-1, while the Beavers improve to 2-1.

            The Basics:

            Plymouth State 5, Babson 14

            Plymouth State (1-1)

            Babson (2-1)

            How it Happened.

  • Babson scored the game's first five goals before junior Meg McAndrew (South Windsor, Conn.) and freshman Emily Santom (Litchfield, N.H.) pulled the Panthers to within 5-2 with just under seven minutes in the half.
  • Beavers' junior Georgia Salvatore (Westwood, Mass.) closed the half with three straight goals as the hosts took an 8-2 lead into the break.
  • After a Babson goal to open the second half, Santom buried her second of the game to make it 9-3 with 24:18 left to play.
  • The home team followed with three straight to put the game out of reach.
  • Sophomore Devon Mello (Laconia, N.H.) and freshman Alanna Joyce (Windham, Maine) scored for the Panthers but the deficit was too large to overcome.

            Inside the Numbers:

  • Santom led the Panthers with two goals.
  • Joyce's goal was her first collegiate tally.
  • Mello posted a team-high four draw controls, while junior Faye Brown (Londonderry, N.H.) had a team-best four caused turnovers.
  • Freshman Autumn Nelson (Weare, N.H.) led the Panthers with five ground balls.
  • Allard made 11 saves and added four ground balls but dropped to 1-1 on the young season.

            Up Next:

  • PSU faces a tough schedule next week as the Panthers visit a pair of nationally ranked opponents. First up is a trip to #13 Bowdoin on Wednesday (Mar. 4) for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
