Hernandez nets team-leading seventh goal of season 

            COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Victoria Hernandez (Danvers, Mass.) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year, but Plymouth State University fell to #15 Colorado College, 13-1, in a non-conference game at Washburn Field on Saturday.

            Hernandez scored the game's first goal to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead just over a minute into play, but the Tigers used a 7-0 run through the remainder of the half to take a 7-1 lead into the break. Colorado College added six tallies in the second half to earn the win.

            Plymouth State drops to 1-5, with four losses coming to nationally ranked powers, while Colorado College improves to 3-2.

            How it Happened.

  • Hernandez put the Panthers in the lead early in the first half, but Maggie O'Donnell assisted on back-to-back goals as Colorado College went ahead, 2-1.
  • Eva King scored three times in the opening half as the Tigers extended the lead to 7-1 at the break.
  • O'Donnell scored on a free position attempt to open the second half scoring as the Tigers pushed the advantage to 13-1.
  • The Panthers held Colorado College off the scoreboard over the final 12 minutes.

 

            Inside the Numbers:

  • Hernandez's tally was her team-leading seventh of the year.
  • The game snapped junior Meg McAndrew's (South Windsor, Conn.) goal-scoring streak. The midfielder had scored in each of the Panthers' first five games.
  • McAndrew and junior Faye Brown (Londonderry, N.H.) each picked up four ground balls, while freshman Chloe Kilbride (Portland, Maine) and junior Meaghan Allard (Amherst, N.H.) each had three.
  • McAndrew and freshman Autumn Nelson (Weare, N.H.) each had a pair of draw controls.
  • Allard posted a team-high four caused turnovers, with Nelson adding three.
  • Allard stopped 11 shots over the first 39:46 but dropped to 1-5, while freshman Sam Porter (Weare, N.H.) made three saves the rest of the way.

 

            Up Next:

  • With cancelations and postponements on the calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PSU's next scheduled contest isn't until April 11 at UMass Dartmouth.
