PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Despite extending its unbeaten streak to 17-straight matches, the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team dropped two spots in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll.
 
Plymouth State is ranked 13th in the third NEWVA poll of the season with 36 points. The Panthers picked up two more wins since the last poll, rallying past Western Connecticut State University, 3-2, before toppling College of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-1, last Saturday.
 
PSU is the lone remaining unbeaten team in New England and one of just six teams nationally without a loss. Only two programs in the country, Wartburg (20-0) and Johns Hopkins (19-0), have more wins without a loss this season.
 
The 17-match streak is the second longest in program history, trailing only a 20-match span to open the 1996 season – the inaugural year of the program.
 
The NEWVA Poll is open to all member schools with a .500 record or better. The poll committee ranks schools based on strength of schedule, head-to-head competition and records vs. common opponents when making its selections. The full poll is available on the NEWVA website – www.newvad3.com.
 
PSU has two Little East Conference contests on the schedule this week. With a pair of victories, the Panthers would secure at least a share of the regular season title and would earn the top seed for next month's LEC Tournament.
 
Plymouth State heads to the University of Southern Maine tonight (Oct. 13) for a 7:00 p.m., before hosting Castleton University on Friday (Oct. 15) for a 7:00 p.m. Senior Night match.
