PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman
Lindsey Sanderson (Gilford, N.H.) notched a team high eight kills and hit .389, but Plymouth State University's 19-match win streak came to an end after a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) setback to Middlebury College in non-conference women's volleyball action at Foley Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
The matchup featured two of New England's top teams as both programs appeared in the New England Women's Volleyball Association's (NEWVA) Week #4 Poll. Middlebury held the No. 5 spot, while Plymouth State was ranked No. 12.
PSU was looking to match the program record of 20-straight wins, but Middlebury was able to hold off the home Panthers late to close out each set.
Playing in its annual
Pink Game, Plymouth State also got eight kills from freshman
Lilli Stogner (Weare, N.H.).
PSU drops to 19-1, while Middlebury improves to 16-3.
The Basics:

- Plymouth State (19-1)
- Middlebury (16-3)
How it Happened:
- The teams traded points throughout the first set, with Middlebury holding a 15-14 lead midway through. The visitors used an 8-2 run to pull away, Plymouth State battled back. With the hosts facing set point, Stogner's kill and a huge block by Sanderson and junior Emilee Flanagan (Milton, N.H.) helped the home team pull within two, 24-22, but Middlebury earned the final point to spoil the comeback attempt.
- Back-to-back Sanderson kills gave PSU a 16-14 lead midway through set two, but Middlebury answered with a 6-1 surge to pull in front. Plymouth State cut the margin to one on sophomore Nora Ryan's (Groton, Conn.) kill to make it 22-21, but Middlebury answered with a kill and consecutive aces for a 25-21 victory.
- Middlebury used a three-point run to build a 17-11 lead in the third set, but the hosts came roaring back. Gravelle pounded a kill, then rotated to the back row and ripped off back-to-back aces as part of a 7-0 spurt as PSU pulled to within 21-20. The teams traded two-point runs, but Middlebury took advantage of a PSU miscue and added a kill to take set three, 25-22.
