VB: Panthers up one spot in NEWVA Poll #4

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team moved up one spot in the latest New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) poll after adding two more wins to its resume last week.

Plymouth State now holds the 12th spot in the poll with 30 points. The Panthers earned a pair of Little East Conference (LEC) wins since last week's poll to lock up the regular season title and top seed for next month's LEC Tournament. PSU topped University of Southern Maine, 3-1, on the road last Wednesday, before cruising past Castleton University on Senior Night on Friday.

The Panthers remain as the sole unbeaten team in New England and are now one of just five teams nationally without a loss. Only two programs in the country, Wartburg (22-0) and Johns Hopkins (22-0), have longer winless streaks this year.

PSU's 19-match streak is just one shy of the program record, a 20-match run that spanned the first 20 matches of the program's existence in 1996.

The NEWVA Poll is open to all member schools with a .500 record or better. The poll committee ranks schools based on strength of schedule, head-to-head competition and records vs. common opponents when making its selections. The full poll is available on the NEWVA website – www.newvad3.com.

Plymouth State will face its strongest competition of the season tonight when Middlebury College visits Foley Gymnasium. Middlebury comes in with a 15-3 mark and holds the No. 5 spot in this week's poll. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
