PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior
Matt Canfield (Dansbury, Conn.) broke the 200-yard freestyle school record by 15 seconds as Plymouth State University fell to Eastern Connecticut State University, 178-63, in a men's swimming dual meet at the PSU Natatorium on Saturday.
Canfield finished second in the 200 free, crushing the record with a time of 2:00.24. He added a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle and a third place showing in the 50-yard backstroke. Junior
Ryan Kudish (North Providence, R.I.) took second in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke and added a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, while freshman
Jimmy Blanco (Stark, N.H.) had a consistent day with three third-place finishes (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 50-yard butterfly).
Plymouth State falls to 0-1, while the Warriors improve to 3-0.

How it Happened:
- Canfield got things rolling with a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.24, setting a school record by 15 seconds. Sophomore Lyden Fogg (South Portland, Maine) also got under the previous record time with 2:12.64.
- Canfield followed up with a third-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke, with Fogg not far behind in fourth.
- Kudish got his day started by finishing second in the 50-yard breaststroke in 31.50.
- Junior James Farrell (Brentwood, England) added to the team's point total with a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.33, where Blanco got his first third place showing of the day in 26.32.
- Canfield wrapped up his day with a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, with Blanco just behind him in third.
- Kudish and freshman Adam Cilley (Barrington, N.H.) placed second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Both the 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams placed second.
