Jess Mezquita (Atkinson, N.H.) scored twice and sophomore
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.) added a goal to help Plymouth State University to a 3-1 win over Fitchburg State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey matchup at Eliot Field on Saturday afternoon.

Mezquita and Comeau each scored in the first quarter to give Plymouth State a commanding 2-0 lead. Fitchburg State made it a one-goal game in the third, but Mezquita notched her second of the day midway through the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Plymouth State improves its record to 2-1 and kicks off its LEC schedule with a win (1-0), while Fitchburg State drops to 1-3 (0-1 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Mezquita scored just 3:15 into the game to give PSU the early lead. Her initial shot was stopped by the Fitchburg State goalkeeper, but Mezquita collected the rebound and found the back of the cage.
- Comeau doubled the Panthers' lead off a pass from junior Emma Revas (New Boston, N.H.) with just under two minutes left in the opening stanza.
- The Panthers kept the pressure on, but the first half would end at a score of 2-0.
- The second half began with Plymouth continuing to showcase its offense, but Falcons' sophomore goalie Jenna Morse (Leominster, Mass.) was equal to the task.
- With seconds remaining in the third quarter, the hosts cut the margin in half on Emily Iacovelli's (Northbridge, Mass.) goal.
- Throughout the fourth quarter the Plymouth State offense continued their dominance and Mezquita added her second of the game midway through the quarter.
- Plymouth State held on for the 3-1 win.

- Mezquita and Comeau are tied for the team lead in points (four) with sophomore Sydney Spenard (Manchester, N.H.).

- Sophomore Kayla Antonucci (Windham, N.H.) and classmate Piper Sherbert (Freeport, Maine) split the cage for the Panthers and combined for seven saves.
