PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore
Sydney Spenard (Manchester, N.H.) scored to tie the game midway through the second quarter and classmate
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass) tallied the game-winner in the fourth to give Plymouth State University a 2-1 win over Gordon College in a non-conference game at Panther Field on Tuesday afternoon. The win was the program's first on Panther Field.
Gordon College would open the scoring midway through the second quarter when the Panthers were a player down due to a card, but Plymouth State would answer less than two minutes later when Spenard collected a pass from sophomore
Holly Temple (Topsham, Maine) and deposited her shot into the back of the cage.
After a scoreless third quarter, Plymouth State took the lead with under ten minutes to go in the game when Comeau converted on a back door pass from senior
Natalie Perry (Conway, N.H.).
Plymouth State improves to 1-1, while Gordon College falls to 0-3 on the season.

How it Happened:
- After a scoreless first quarter, both teams came out firing to begin the second.
- Minutes in, Comeau collected a pass in close range but her shot sailed wide.
- Gordon struck first on goal from senior Cara Goudie (Wenham, Mass.) halfway through the second quarter.
- Plymouth State would answer back less than two minutes later when Spenard buried a crossing pass from Temple.
- The game entered halftime knotted at one apiece.
- After a scoreless third, Gordon nearly took the lead early in the fourth quarter, but sophomore goalkeeper Piper Sherbert (Freeport, Maine) made a diving save to keep the score tied.
- Less than three minutes later, Perry was streaking down the right side and saw an opening in the Gordon defense that allowed Comeau to get free. Perry sent a perfect pass and Comeau converted for the game-winning goal to give the Panthers a 2-1 win.

- The Fighting Scots held a narrow 7-6 shot advantage.
- Plymouth State's defense was stellar as it held Gordon scoreless on eight penalty corners opportunities.
- Sherbert had five saves in her first career start.
