CASTLETON, Vt. – Sophomore
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) won her team-leading seventh singles match of the year and Plymouth State University secured a spot in next week's Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament with a 6-3 win over Castleton University in LEC women's tennis action at the Castleton Tennis Courts on Tuesday evening.
LaBarre dropped just a single game in a dynamic performance at No. 3 singles, while also contributing to an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Plymouth State is set for a ninth-straight LEC Tournament appearance and has a shot to host a first round playoff game pending the results of the season finale on Saturday (Oct. 15).
Plymouth State improves to 6-5 and 4-3 in the LEC, while Castleton slips to 3-8 and 1-6 in conference play.

How it Happened:
- LaBarre and senior Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) controlled the match at No. 1 doubles on the way to an 8-3 win.
- Freshman Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) teamed up with sophomore Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) for a quick win at No. 2 pairs, 8-1, while juniors Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.) and Erin Good (Dartmouth, Mass.) came up just short in an 8-6 setback at No. 3.
- LaBarre was dominant in a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and Marshall outlasted her opponent at No. 1 singles by a 6-3, 7-6 margin.
- Craigie and Cardoso were in control throughout at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, as each dropped just a single game.
By the Numbers:
- LaBarre picks up her team-best seventh singles win of the year. She led the Panthers in wins last season as well.
- The Cardoso-Craigie pairing has been PSU's most productive doubles team, winning six matches as a team.
- Plymouth State has won each of the last nine meetings and 13-of-14. The Panthers improve to 24-6 all-time against Castleton.
- Plymouth State has guaranteed itself a spot in the LEC Tournament for the ninth straight year.
