WENHAM, Mass. – Sophomore
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) won her fifth straight singles match, but Gordon College held off a pesky Plymouth State University, 5-4, in a non-conference women's tennis match at Brigham Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon.
The match came down to No. 2 singles, where junior
Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.) hung tough through a lengthy, three-set match, coming up just short (6-4, 4-6, 4-6). Asciutto, along with junior
Erin Good (Dartmouth, Mass.) had teamed up for the Panthers' lone doubles win, taking No. 3 by an 8-3 margin.
Plymouth State evens out at 4-4, while Gordon goes to 1-7.

How it Happened:
- Asciutto and Good won their second straight match as a duo, 8-3, to secure a point at No. 3 doubles.
- Freshman Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) put up a fight at No. 2 pairs, falling just short, 8-6.
- LaBarre cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, while Craigie dispatched of her opponent at No. 4 by a 6-3, 6-3 margin.
- Cardoso battled to a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles.
By the Numbers:
- LaBarre has won five consecutive singles matches.
- PSU has gone 6-2 at the No. 3 singles slot. LaBarre has posted a 4-2 mark there, while Asciutto and Cardoso each won their lone matches.
- This was the first meeting between the two programs.
