PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior
Athena Comeau (Rutland, Mass.) scored twice, but Westfield State University used a late goal to secure a 3-2 win over Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey matchup on Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.
Plymouth State opened the scoring ten minutes into the game on a Comeau goal assisted by junior
Taylor Healey (Campton, N.H.). Westfield State answered back just over a minute later to tie the game at one, and the Owls pulled ahead in the second quarter to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Nearly halfway through the third quarter, Comeau struck again, this time assisted by senior
Alessia Salzillo (Saugus, Mass.). Comeau's eighth goal of the year tied the game at two, setting up the final quarter of play.
Westfield State had one offensive chance in the final 15 minutes and the Owls cashed in with 1:35 left in regulation to secure the 3-2 win.
Plymouth State slips to 7-4 (5-2 LEC), while Westfield State improves to 6-6 (3-3 LEC).
