PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore
Ethan Stuckless (Conception Bay South, Newfoundland) and junior
Carson Lanceleve (Stewiacke, Nova Scotia) each scored twice to help Plymouth State University explode past Salve Regina University, 8-2, in non-conference men's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks got out to an early start with a power play goal in the opening five minutes, but sophomore
Anton Jellvik (Taby, Sweden) had the answer just over a minute later. The visitors went back in front, 2-1, with 5:47 left in the opening period, but Plymouth State capitalized on a major penalty with a pair of goals to take a 3-2 lead into intermission.
Stuckless tipped in a shot during a power play for the lone goal of the middle stanza before the Panthers erupted for four more tallies in the third period to put the game out of reach.
Plymouth State improves to 8-3-1, while Salve Regina, which is receiving votes in the latest USCHO Poll, slips to 4-3-1.
The Basics:
- Plymouth State 8, Salve Regina 2
- Plymouth State (8-3-1)
- Salve Regina (4-3-1)
How it Happened:
- Salve Regina struck first at the 4:47 mark of the first with a power play tally when a Seahawks' skater got free on the weakside and one-timed a pass through the slot for the 1-0 advantage.
- The Panthers came right back just over a minute later when senior Myles Abbate (Norwell, Mass.) connected with Jellvik, who skated down the left side before firing a shot on target. The Seahawks' goaltender couldn't control the rebound and Jellvik cleaned it up to knot the game at 1-1.
- The visitors jumped back in front with 5:47 left in the period when a shot from behind the goal line somehow slipped under the pads of senior Brendahn Brawley (Morton, Pa.) to give Salve Regina a 2-1 lead.
- PSU took advantage of a major penalty to leapfrog in front. Lanceleve fired a wrist shot from the point that got past the Seahawks' netminder to make it 2-2 with 4:51 left in the frame, and Abbate buried a low-angle shot to take the lead with 1:36 to go.
- Stuckless gave the Panthers some breathing room when he tipped in a shot from the blue line by freshman Rider McCallum (Langley, British Columbia) on the power play with 4:35 left in the middle stanza.
- The Panthers erupted in the third period, with Lanceleve and senior Kyler Harding (Wilmington, N.C.) both lighting the lamp in the opening four minutes before freshman Payton Schaly (Orillia, Ontario) got into the action with 7:32 remaining to extend the lead to 7-2.
- Stuckless capped the scoring with his second power play goal of the night at the 16:32 mark to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- Stuckless has been on fire of late, notching six points over the last three games. He leads the Panthers with nine goals and his 16 points trails Lanceleve by just two.
