GORHAM, Maine – The Plymouth State University women's basketball team dropped a 70-38 decision to the University of Southern Maine in Little East Conference (LEC) action at Warren G. Hill Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Plymouth State led at the end of the first quarter, but a strong second quarter lifted the Huskies in front by double-digits and the hosts were able to maintain their advantage the rest of the way.
Sophomore
Lauren Keller (Fort Morgan, Colo.) topped the Panthers with 13 points for the second straight game, while classmate
Natalie Harris (Barrington, N.H.) scored nine points of her own. Junior
Jalen Cook (Monkton, Vt.) added seven points in the losing effort.
Plymouth State slips to 1-16 (0-12 LEC) on the season, while Southern Maine improves to 6-12 and 5-4 in conference play.

How it Happened:
- The teams played back-and-forth in the first quarter with the score deadlocked at 7-7 with 6:58 remaining.
- PSU rode a 10-5 run to edge the Huskies, 13-12, to close out the first.
- Scoring 12-straight points, the hosts found themselves with a nine-point lead (24-15) with 6:12 to play in the second.
- The Huskies scored a buzzer-beating jumper to extend their lead to 32-19 heading into halftime.
- USM continued to pull away in the second half to close out the victory.
By the Numbers:
- PSU drained 13-of-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line but went 12-of-53 (22.6%) from the floor.
- Each team pulled down 13 offensive rebounds though USM held a 44-37 edge in overall rebounds.
- USM shot over 60% in the third quarter to pull away.
- The Huskies have been dominant at home against PSU, losing just once dating back to 1987.
