PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) picked up her third singles win of the season, but UMass Dartmouth held off Plymouth State University, 7-2, in Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis action at the Holderness School Courts on Saturday afternoon.
LaBarre notched a straight sets win at No. 3 singles, but the Corsairs proved to be too strong. Plymouth State picked up a second team point in pairs play, where sophomore
Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) and freshman
Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) earned a win at No. 2.
The match was part of Plymouth State's
50 Years of Title IX – Celebrating the Women of Panther Athletics weekend.
Plymouth State moves to 3-3 (1-2 LEC), while UMass Dartmouth improves to 7-2 and 3-0 in the Little East.

How it Happened:
- Craigie and Cardoso earned the 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles to get the Panthers' their first point.
- Juniors Sarah Asciutto (Manchester, Vt.) and Erin Good (Dartmouth, Mass.) put up a fight at No. 3 doubles, but fell by an 8-4 margin.
- LaBarre teamed up with senior Megan Marshall (Dartmouth, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles, with the duo coming up short, 8-3.
- LaBarre grabbed the team's lone singles win, taking No. 3 in straight sets by a 6-1, 7-5 score.
- Craigie put up a fight at No. 4 singles before going down 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, and Cardoso was nipped 7-5 in the first set at No. 5 singles, before falling 6-3 in the second.
By the Numbers:
- The two teams have alternated wins over the past six meetings.
- LaBarre's singles win was the 15th of her career. She has won each of her last three matches in singles play.
- Craigie and Cardoso improve to 4-2 in pairs action.
- LaBarre joins Marshall, Asciutto, Craigie and Cardoso with three singles wins apiece.
- Good was making her collegiate debut.
