MBB: Bosse drops 30 but Beacons too strong

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Kyler Bosse (Manchester, N.H.) poured in 30 points, but the University of Massachusetts Boston overpowered Plymouth State University, 92-73, in a Little East Conference (LEC) men's basketball game at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Beacons held PSU scoreless over the first six-plus minutes to build a 13-0 lead, but Plymouth State was able to trim the deficit to eight (40-32) on a buzzer-beating three-pointer by freshman Maxwell Galbraith (Hanover, N.H.).

Bosse scored back-to-back buckets to cut the margin to 48-41 after 3:35 of play in the second half, but the Beacons restored the double-digit lead and maintained a comfortable advantage the rest of the way.

Plymouth State celebrated Local Youth Basketball Day, with area youth basketball players grades K-8 participating in halftime contests for prizes.

PSU falls to 6-8 (0-6 LEC) on the season, while the Beacons improve to 11-3 and 4-1 in conference play.

The Basics:
  • Plymouth State 73, UMass Boston 92
    • Plymouth State (6-8, 0-6 LEC)
    • UMass Boston (11-3, 4-1 LEC)
How it Happened:
  • UMass Boston scored the game's first 13 points to take command early.
  • Junior Kevin Henry (Stratham, N.H.) got the Panthers on the board with 13:37 left in the opening half and the teams traded buckets over the next ten minutes.
  • Plymouth State used an 8-2 spurt to close out the half to cut the margin to 40-32 heading into the locker room. Galbraith accounted for six of the points, including a three-pointer from the left wing as time expired.
  • The Beacons scored the first two buckets of the second half to restore the double-digit margin.
  • Bosse drilled a triple to make it 46-37 with 17:17 left to play and moments later his driving layup made it a seven-point game (48-41).
  • The visitors lead remained in the 10-point range into the midpoint of the half, before the Beacons pulled away over the final ten minutes.
By the Numbers:
  • Bosse hit the 30-point threshold for the third time this season and fourth time in his career. The 6-4 guard finished 13-of-23 from the field and nailed 2-of-4 from beyond the arc while adding five rebounds.
  • Senior Giorgi Tsiklauri (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added nine points, five boards and two steals, while Henry and junior Rylan Canabano (Concord, N.H.) added eight points apiece.
  • The Panthers shot 41.4% (12-of-29) in the opening half but cooled off over the final 20 minutes and finished 25-of-68 (36.8%) for the game.

  • The Beacons owned a 47-35 advantage on the boards.
  • PSU leads the all-time series, 53-24, dating back to the 1986-87 season, though the teams have been evenly matched over the past 12 years. The two teams have split the 24 meetings since the 2010-11 season.

Up Next:
